Making a Mountain of a Mole Hill

  027

Friday is my daughter's first dance. It's a Sock Hop. And I promised her I would make her a Poodle Skirt. I have the basic concept down but is there any easy way to cut the fabric???

I'm going to use a drawstring waist because I haven't mastered zippers or elastic yet. I can do the waist fairly easily but I'm at a loss of how to cut it. I know I'm making it much more than it really is but I need help!!

If you know of any tutorial with pictures (I'm a visual learner) could you point me to them? And if you have any tips on my project that will make it easier that would be great!!  You my bloggy friends are the best!!!

Tiffanie, do you have a pattern? I think a poodle skirt is essentially a big circle with a hole for the waist, like a Christmas tree skirt. I know there is a method for cutting a continuous circle but I couldn't find what I was looking for, I did find this for making a skirt using two half circles. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/crispin.roche/circular.htm

i made Jordan's out of a really stiff felt using a Christmas tree skirt as my "pattern" i am no good at zippers either and just used elastic for the waist. her skirt only cost me $11 to make including the cute little applique poodle and a few feet of sequins.

go to my blog you can see her skirt on "dancing Queen 2" and a Worldess Wednesday last month.

i also found this: http://www.ehow.com/how_2060166_make-childs-poodle-skirt.html

and this:

Quick sewing tip: I am really visual and I love photos with my patterns. Even if I am not going to follow the pattern and just need a quick guideline, I like the visual with the instructions...and quick!

I LOVE www.youcanmakethis.com . Right after you purchase you get a link to the downloand and viola it is there.

Okay I have no help for you, as I'm a knitter not a sewer (okay that sounds like I'm calling you a poop-tube...is "sewer" the appropriate word for someone who sews??)

ANYWAY!!!! What I wanted to say is I can not believe how grown up Baby Girl is looking!! Oh my!! So pretty!!!

Love, Jen
