I don't profess to have it all together. I do on occasion put my foot in my mouth, say something that makes me look not so smart. Well people, last night I showed my true airheadedness (is that a word?).
Around 10:15 my little temperature gauge on my computer was blinking red. I clicked on it just to see what was up. Severe thunderstorms were headed our way. Yep I can see all the lightening and hear the thunder. We get storms like this often so I wasn't worried. 10:30 we went to bed and kept commenting on how I love watching the lightening. I even went to far as to exclaim "OOHH look at all the pretty lights" (I can't believe I just told you that).
11pm - We are sleeping in the playroom because our our master bedroom is under construction. The playroom is in the front of the house and our bed is situated in front of the window. By this time the winds were in excess of 60 mph and had blown both umbrella strollers off the porch. What did I do? I popped my head up opened the blinds and watched the storm/tornado.
I kept commenting to my husband who was not coherent at the time to look at the lightening. It was pretty. It was really. He of course kept commenting as best he could in his sleep imposed delirium, "mmmmffff fdadfd" Then I heard something in resemblance of "wake me when it's over" or maybe it was "can I have a peanut butter sandwich?" I'm not sure which.
11:22pm - Baby girl comes in and hands me the phone. She surprised me. Here I was marveling and being mesmerized by all the lightening and watching our chairs blow away that I didn't even hear her come in the room. Apparently, she got scared and called her dad but while she was on the phone my mother was continuously calling to make sure we were alright. And got worried when she couldn't get through.
My mother was very worried for our safety and called because she was watching the news and they mentioned our street and that residence should take cover in a basement or the lowest room with no windows.
And here I am with the blinds open sitting in front of the window saying "Look at the pretty lights" I kind of feel stupid people. I do. The storm didn't last long and hit other areas of our town a lot harder. We were lucky we didn't get hurt or our home wasn't damaged.
On the news this morning there were reports of power outages, overturned semi's, cars, homes destroyed , trees down and even two Fedex planes overturned. One was blown down an embankment off the runway and one was leaning with a wing damaged. Yep the winds were strong enough to move airplanes. And here I was going "Look at all the pretty lights!"
The wind and rain were so strong that it took the paint off of our front porch! It needs to be replaced so now we have an excuse. See the deep grooves in the wood. Only one of those were there before the storm. Several slats are missing near the end of the porch. No big deal they were loose anyhow.
We are expected to have another storm similar to this one on Mother's Day. I will not be having any airhead moments that day! We are prepared. There is blankets ,water and and a change of clothes for all of us down there. Please say a prayer for those families without power, the ones who lost their homes and especially the family that lost a family member last night.

I"m glad you're all okay. My husband would be watching the pretty lights and I would have been in the basement with the kids hours before.
