Little Monkey climbed up on the couch and prepared to sit down on the arm . What he didn't realize is that the arm of the couch was not as wide as he thought and he fell backwards and all I heard was a sickening crack!
There was a slight pause and then he let out a horrifying scream. I immediately picked him up and tried in vain to calm him down. His name was called and we followed the nurse. Still screaming we attempted to get him weighed and measured but he would have none of it. I let them know what happened in the waiting room and the nurse informed the doctor. He took a look at him and said he should be fine.
We proceeded with the check up and all was well after I let Little Monkey hold his clothes. Being autistic he does not like to be naked and add to that a bump on the head. The screaming was worse than normal. But after a while he was fine.
He did not eat dinner that night which is a normal occurrence around here, which is why he drinks Pediasure (but that's another post). Bedtime was uneventful too. He went to bed happy and more than willing to get in bed. But that all changed at 12am. I heard screaming "MOMMY, MY HEAD Hurts!" and then the vomiting started. Having had a head injury myself when I was five I knew the signs of something serious.
Baby Girl was awakened by the screaming and helped me get him dressed and in the car. Steven stayed home with Tiger and mumbled something to the affect of "call me when you know something" and went back to sleep.
Poor Baby Girl kept repeating over and over that this was all her fault. That she should have been there to catch him when he fell. I assured her that it was not her fault. She can't watch two kids at the same time. I don't even know how we mother's do it honestly.
He continued to throw up in the car and in the ER waiting room. They made me wait outside of the radiology room while they did a CT scan of his head. I bawled when I heard him screaming "I want my mommy!" I felt so helpless. I couldn't do anything for the pain, he was too nauseous to take any medicine.
After many hours of waiting in the ER, Little Monkey was finally admitted. Once he was settled in his room the neuro-radiologist came into the room and told me that they read the CT scan again and saw a fracture in the back of his head. Poor guy. I know his head had to hurt pretty bad. He came home after 12 hours in the hospital and slept like a baby. He had not slept since midnight the night before and was exhausted.
He's better but still complains of headaches, dizziness, light sensitivity and things are too loud and they hurt his ears. Please keep him in your prayers and we watch him the next few days and pray that this injury did not affect his brain.

Awww... poor thing. As soon as I read he vomited, I knew it wasn't going to be good news. I hope he heals up soon.
Oh Girl! How scary! I hope your doing alright. He is going to be alright. Are you able to sleep? Are you doing the every two hour wake up thin? I am so sorry this happened.
Holding you in thought and prayers.
Oh poor Monkey. I know the pain of hearing your children cry and not being able to make them feel better, just recently actually. I hope he feels better soon.
I'm so sorry to hear that, I was cringing the whole time I read your story! My heart goes out to you and your family.
Oh no... I hope that he heals quickly and that everything is well. Poor little guy.
Oh my gosh, the poor little guy. At least he had symptoms that showed something was wrong.
A boy on my son's baseball team had a skull fracture after slipping in the shower and had no symptoms for at least a whole day and a half. It was so weird to think that we were all hanging out together that day and the boy boy had a crack in his skull.
Glad your little guy is feeling better now and didn't have any major damage done.
I think of all the times my kids bumped their heads when they were little and learning to walk, or climbing too much, and I'm so grateful that nothing serious ever happened.
