Craft Project Thursday – BHG Style!

I know all of you have heard of Better Homes and Gardens. Aren’t they fabulous? Did you know that they have 100’s of craft projects on their site? They have crafts for most holidays . Just like this one!

Keepsake Crafts for Easter

These simple springtime-fresh crafts make it easy to get ready for an Easter celebration.

Cheep Chic

These adorable chick-shape egg cozies -- a playful take on British tea cozies -- keep soft-cooked eggs piping hot.

-- Cut two simple chick shapes from yellow terry cloth.

-- Layer two pieces on top of each other (the wrong sides out).

-- Stitch the edges together, leaving the base open.

-- Turn right side out.

-- Stitch eyes with black thread and sew on a black felt beak.

Most of the crafts are just as simple as this one. There are crafts for kids, the avid crafter, as well as the novice. In my opinion, Better Homes and Gardens is one of the best places to find craft projects. I have a few wash cloths that I can cut up and turn into these cute little chicks. Keep and eye out! I’ll be posting pictures soon!

Happy Crafting!!

Earn Prizes While you Search

I found a great way to earn gift cards just by using a search engine. Something I do everyday. Swagbucks is a search engine where you can earn points to put towards prizes like Gift Cards to Target, Amazon.com, Starbucks, Barnes & Nobles, Disney, ITunes etc.

We are in the generation of saving money. What better way to do that than to earn  prizes that help you do just that. And all you have to do is what you do anyway. Search the internet. How cool is that?

I have only been a member for about three weeks and already I have earned enough for an Amazon.com gift card!!! I love me some Amazon.com! I love this site! Go ahead visit Swagbucks and save some money the easy way!

Ultimate Blog Party 2009

Welcome to Three Peas in a Pod!!! I’m so glad you are here!!! I hope you enjoy your stay. Let me introduce myself and tell you what I’m all about!

My name is Tiffanie, I’m a SAHM of three angelsAnnise Moutte2                                       Tiger is 2 and loves to be in his big brother’s shadow. Although, big Brother isn't always fond of having him there they seem to get along great most of the time.  He the sensitive one of the bunch.

Picture 2173

This is Little Monkey. He is 4yrs old and very smart (at least I think so). This guy keeps us in stitches all the time. He’s our miracle baby. He loves to help me cook and clean. I’m hoping that will last a very very long time

Caila1 This is Baby Girl. She is my tween (12). She has a passion for crafting like I do and loves to create with me. Her favorite subject in school is Art. Baby Girl is the most giving person I know. She is so thoughtful and makes friends easily.

I created this blog at first to help me in the dark days while my son was in the hospital for so long. Blogging kept me sane as well as kept my family that lived cross country to know what was going on. Now, blogging has been a great place for me to get ideas on parenting, education, products and feel connected when sometimes I can’t.

Throughout my 4 years in blogging I have come to know some fabulous ladies and gents. Some have become close friends even though we have never met face to face. I have learned a ton from them and without them my blog would just be another boring journal.

Here at Three Peas in a Pod I focus on what I love to do which is photography, reading, crafting, and playing with my kids. I share tips, host giveaways, and try to make my readers laugh. There is always encouragement, funny stories, conversations with my youngest kids that will make you smile. My goal here is to help you have a great day. I hope it’s working!!!

Enjoy the Party!!!

Craft Project Thursday

Paper Egg Diorama

Paper Egg Diorama

Is this not the cutest Easter craft? I found this at the family fun site by Disney, which is a fabulous site by the way! I haven’t tried it yet but it looks fun!

Materials Needed:

Colored tissue paper

White paper

Balloon

Newspaper

String

Jar lid

Small bowl

1/4 cup white flour

1/2 cup water

Ribbon (we used a 20-inch length)

Tape

Items for the interior (available at craft stores)

Time needed: Weekend Project

Paper Egg Diorama - Step 1 1. 1 Cut the tissue paper and white paper into 1 1/2- to 2-inch squares. Inflate the balloon to the size you'd like your finished egg to be (ours is about 7 inches tall), then knot it. Cover your work area with newspaper. Either suspend the balloon over your work surface (we hung ours with string from a ceiling hook) or set the balloon on an upside-down jar lid while you work. In a small bowl, stir the flour and water together to make papier-mache paste. Working with one square at a time, dip the tissue paper into the paste and smooth it onto the balloon. Cover the entire balloon, making sure the squares overlap slightly. This will be the inner wall of the egg.

Paper Egg Diorama - Step 2 2. Using the same dip-and-smooth method, add two layers of white paper squares on top of the tissue paper, then add a final layer of tissue paper.

Paper Egg Diorama - Step 3 3. When the egg is completely dry, use a pencil to mark a window opening on the side, then cut it out with scissors. If you managed to avoid popping the balloon up to this point, pop it now and discard it.

Paper Egg Diorama - Step 4 4. Next, decorate the window. Dip tissue paper squares into the paste, crumple them into balls, and put them around the edge.

Paper Egg Diorama - Step 5 5. Tie the ribbon into a bow, tuck the knot into the hole left by the knot of the balloon, and secure the ribbon on the inside with tape. Decorate the egg's interior: we used paper grass, a small plastic egg, and a feathery chick. Display the egg on an upside-down jar lid.

Happy Crafting !!!!

Fun ways to teach toddlers about the Environment

In the upcoming months there will be many great opportunities to teach kids about saving energy and the environment.

  • On Saturday, March 28th at 8:30 p.m., during the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour, hundred of millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour in a vote for action on the climate crisis.
  • Then on April 22nd more than 500 million people and national governments in 175 countries will celebrate Earth Day.

On March 27, at special “Stepping Up for the Environment” events across 320-plus Goddard Schools nationwide, more than 40,000 youngsters will help spread the message that even very young children – toddlers and preschoolers - can make a positive impact toward a sustainable future. Education experts at Goddard, the country’s leading child care franchise company, offer the following fun projects that you can do at home to teach your kids about the environment:

  1. Create the Earth. Eco-friendly coffee filters make great miniature earths.  In two separate cups, use food coloring to make blue and green colored water. Then allow the children to use eyedroppers to drop the colors on their Earth (coffee filter). When the colored water is dropped on the filter it spreads a bit and the children can create land and water shapes on their “little earths.”
  2. Lights Out, Flashlights On. Play “I Spy” in the dark.  Have the children use flashlights to locate objects they can use to become more “green,” such as a light switch or recycle bins.
  3. Go for a Nature Walk. Place tape, sticky side out, on the children’s wrists and take them outside to collect things in nature. You could also decorate a sack and go around the neighborhood picking up litter.
  4. Dress It Up! Hold a fashion show using old newspapers as the runway. Create vests by using grocery sacks decorated with recycled supplies such as used yogurt cups, etc. Glue recycled materials to the vests and decorate with paint. Then let your kids show off the “beauty of recyclables” while learning what items can be recycled.
  5. Make Rainsticks. Recycle old paper towel rolls by making rainsticks. Have the children close the bottom of the stick with paper and tape. Then fill with beans or rice. You can also crumple up some aluminum foil to make a louder sound. Let the children decorate the rainsticks with construction paper. Use this activity to talk about the importance of clean water and water conservation.

Craft Project Thursday

Baby - Bunny Baby Basket

This Bunny is the perfect gift for new mums or for taking to a baby shower. You could also do this project with several cloth nappies in place of the towels.
This Bunny would make a lovely Easter basket too.

Baby - Bunny Baby Basket

 Materials

1 Wire coat hanger
2 Bath towels
2 inch Wobble Eyes
1 length of Ribbon
1/2 mt Elastic
1mt Length of Lace

Instructions

Gift Basket
Put the two towels together length ways to form a square.
Roll them diagonally into the centre.
Fold the rolled length in half.
Half way down this folded length place the elastic around it to secure it in place. This rounded section forms the body.
The two loose ends that are remaining form the ears. Fold the ear section back onto the body forming the head.
Secure with elastic.
You can leave the ears floppy or make them pointy.
Take the wire coat hanger and form it into a v shape. Push the wire into the back of the ears and bend the hanger hook underneath the bunny. Pin the ear fabric around the wire to hold them up, its a little like a hem around the wire.
Finish the bunny off by tying the ribbon around the head.
Add the wobble eyes, either with glue or some double sided tape (so it can be removed later).
This bunny was finished  off by just adding a teddy bear, but you could add baby supplies or just about anything.
You could place the bunny onto a cake base, or cardboard base for stability when transporting it.

Craft Project Thursday . . . errrr . . . Friday

Yeah I know It’s Friday. I have been sick over the last week. Lots of things got put on hold. Like the dishes, laundry, the house. Time to catch up. I told you the other day that I was going to make decorative magnets from the things I found at Etsy. Well here it is!!!

You need:

Picture 2277

Printed Paper

Flat Clear Marbles

Diamond Glaze

Magnets (smaller than the marble)

Hole Punch (slightly smaller than the Marbles)

My marbles are 3/4” so I need my Hole punch slightly smaller than 3/4”

How to:

1. Rinse off your marbles. They tend to get dusty in the packaging. Dry .

2. Punch out your circles

Picture 2279

3. Put a small dab of diamond glaze on the printed part of the paper circles.

4. Press flat end of marble onto the paper. Wiggle around to make sure the glaze gets everywhere.

5. Let dry a few minutes

Picture 2283

6. Turn Marble over and put another dab of glaze in the center of the flat part and place your magnet on. Let dry and few minutes.

Picture 2289

Voila!

Decorative Magnets

Picture 2286

I would recommend you get the rare earth magnets since they are stronger. You can even use fabric but I’m not sure how well the circle punch can cut through that. If someone has done this using fabric, how about leaving a comment on some tips.

Dentyne "Realationships" Playwright Contest

Logolockup Dentyne®, the gum brand behind the popular Make Face Time™ campaign and Manhattan Theatre Club, one of the country’s most prominent and prestigious theatre companies, today announced two playwriting contests about personal relationships in the digital age – one a national contest open to the public and the other a contest open to students at participating colleges and universities. As part of the contests, Dentyne® and MTC are inviting budding playwrights from across the country to write short plays about sustaining personal relationships in the age of technology.

Students from participating colleges and universities and other amateur playwrights can submit their entries for a chance to have their original, short two-person plays performed by professional actors in New York City before a live audience, along with cash prizes. Entries for the contests must be postmarked by 3/9/09 and received by 3/16/09; official rules and entry forms for both contests are available at www.dentyne.com/realationships/.

The theme of the plays resonates with Dentyne® gum’s popular Make Face Time™ ad campaign, which depicts everyday people spending time getting face to face. In fact, a recent national survey conducted by the brand shows that an overwhelming two-thirds of Americans wish they could get more face-to-face time with family and friends while nearly 80% said they feel more connected to another person when they’re face-to-face, rather than when communicating through technology.

The national survey also revealed that:

  • Three-fourths of Americans agree that online social networks can never replace face time with friends and/or family.
  • About half of Americans feel they don’t get enough (face) time with the ones they care about most.
  • Young Americans are texting more than touching: two-thirds say they have used technology to tell someone they love them; one in five (20%) have used technology to break up with someone.

“The ‘Make Face Time’ campaign is a simple but powerful reminder that the most important connection of them all is the human connection,” said Josette Barenholtz, marketing director for Dentyne®. “Most everyone uses technology to connect, but there really is no substitute for the powerful emotional bond we create when we get face to face. We are pleased to be supporting Manhattan Theatre Club, which provides the unique face-to-face experience of live theatre.”

About the Dentyne® Playwriting ContestsMTCwhite

Others* who wish to participate can do so by entering the national public contest;  one grand prize winner will receive a trip to New York City in early May to have his/her play performed by professional actors in front of a live audience at one of MTC’s theatres at New York City Center the day of the student performances. The grand prize winner of the national public contest will also receive a $7,500 cash prize.

For additional information on the Dentyne® playwriting contests and for official rules and entry forms, visit www.dentyne.com/realationships/.

*Legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia and who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry only.

Hello,

Baby Girl, here to tell you what my mom and I thought of these cute little horses and trading cards.  I just have to say that I heart horses, so anything to do with horses is awesome! These little guys are so cute and soft. Mom says they are very detailed too. I think she’s right.  I have a hard time keeping them away from my little brothers. They want to play with them too!

I like the trading cards too. They have a code on them and you can go online to the website and play games. I spent a few hours on that site. Shhh don’t tell mom, she thinks I was cleaning my room!

I know mom has lots of readers and friends on this site that have little girls. You guys will love this! I’m twelve and I had a blast playing with the horses. Now all I have to do is to convince mom I need more. Won’t be hard since they are really inexpensive.

Well that’s all for now. Go visit the site with your daughters and have a blast playing the games.

Baby Girl
