Craft Project Thursday- Beach Style

                      Cockleshell Critters

What's a week long beach vacation without a beachy craft.Enjoy making these little critters with your kids!!!

Cockleshell Critters

Perched on their driftwood stand, these salty characters really dress up a child's night table or desktop.

CRAFT MATERIALS:

Clean shells

Tacky glue

White pony beads

Permanent black marker

Piece of driftwood

Time needed: About 1 to 2 Hours

1. For each critter, select 2 shells of like size and shape. Set one top-side down and glue a pair of bead eyes to the edge opposite the hinge.

2. Then glue the other shell in place atop the first one, as shown. When the glue is dry, draw pupils on the eyes.

3. Finally, arrange your clam critters atop the driftwood and glue them in place

Has our Luck Changed???

Pool1

What's up with the rain? It's in the vacation rule book that bad weather is not allowed. It rained yesterday afternoon, driving everyone indoors. At least it happened at nap time.

Luckily, the rain stopped and everyone came out to play at the pool. The adults enjoyed a Wine and Cheese event at the pool with a raffle at the end. Steven ended up winning the first prize!! A $20.00 Gift Certificate to any restaurant here.

Pool2

Last night we enjoyed a Wii Bowling Challenge which had us all cheering each other on. But by 11 we were all in bed. Even if there is not sun, being at the pool wears a person out.

So this morning, the boys let me sleep in till 6am. Wasn't that considerate of them? I guess it was a good thing they did, since we forgot about the appointment we had at the real estate office. It was one of those we try to sell you a condo and then we give you gifts for showing up.

Pool5 The guy was not pushy at all which made it better than getting a root canal. We received $200.00 in gift cards to any restaurant in the area! and two separate weeks stay for $246.00!!!  I think our luck has changed.

Today we went to the beach but several of us got stung by jelly fish and we decided that we'd rather be at the pool. Besides I'd rather swim without sand up my nether regions. Don't you?

Pool4

Bella got to swim in the pool for the first time ever. She  loved the water. But she didn't like the sun. Her mom would pull the rim of her hat up so we could see her face. And Bella would pull her had down and cover herself. She was too funny! Oh and this picture, is the first family picture of Bella and her mom and dad.

Ok. So I have to give the laptop up to my wonderful husband who actually has to do a bit of work. UGH!. Keep your eye out for our Wordless Wednesday Picture tomorrow!

Our Vacation Begins

Picnic1 Our vacation began yesterday. The kids were so excited. We stopped in Columbia, SC and had a picnic at a rest area. The kids really enjoyed getting to have sandwiches and playing in the grassy area. I'm sure it felt good for them to stretch their legs and get all that pent up energy out.

Even Bella got to enjoy the picnic. I think she was more mesmerized by all the people and cars than anything. This is her first trip anywhere besides the hospital. She was absolutely amazed at everything she saw.

Picnic2

I thought that the boys were going to sleep the rest of the way there. I was wrong.  I heard Moose A. Moose's song, "Are we there yet?" all the way to Hilton Head Island.

By the time we got there the boys were ready to ditch the car seats and jump in the pool without changing. LOL! An instead of cooking, we ordered pizza because the adults were just too tired too break out the creative cooking genius we inherited.

Picnic3 This place is so cool. It has two pools, both are heated, one has the mushroom waterfalls, and spray fountains in the concrete. There is a pond that is loaded with turtles. And the boys and Baby Girl are fascinated by them.  There is a hotel nearby that has at other pool as well as a indoor pool that  we can use.

Oh and tons of fun activities for all of us. In fact. we are all going to the Wine Tasting in a few moments. Lots of Craft projects for Baby Girl to participate in and family game nights.

So needless to say we are having a great time! I hope you guys have a great week. I know we will!

A Finished Project

So I'm going on vacation next week and I thought I would make a beach blanket. I didn't want to have to put sand or shoes on it to keep it from blowing away. Kelly from Daisy Layne Boutique suggested I use drapery weights. *Gasp* That was such a great idea! Thanks Kelly!

Yes this is my bed and It's the only place I could pin the fabric without the dog laying on it. See that pillow back there. . .the blue one? Baby Girl made that for me for Mother's Day.

She's become quiet the little sewer and is also going to get lessons from Kelly! Yay! Ok. So I gotta focus here. I'm so all over the place today. So, what I did was make two triangles 5" from the point and sewed a drapery weight inside. I made four of them. They don't have to be pretty since they are not going to show.

Don't do what I did and try to pin it on a small table. You are bound to get huge wrinkles and then have to rip the seams out and start over. I'm just say'n. Pin the triangles on the corners and then sew a normal blanket, turn right side out, and topstitch. And there ya go!

Just in time to pack it in a suitcase and be on my way! It was too easy! What are you making this week?

Craft Project Thursday

Homemade Chalk that any kid would love. Making it just adds to the fun! And it's a great project to do on a rainy day in anticipation of a sunny one. Have fun!

Homemade Chalk
Best for ages 4 and up

Materials
* Toilet tissue tube (or an ice cube tray to create smaller chunks for younger hands) * Duct tape * Aluminum foil if you are using a toilet paper tube (or petroleum jelly if you're using an ice cube tray) * Disposable plastic container * Plaster of Paris (Playbox plaster of Paris, about $4 for 4 1/2 pounds, dickblick.com) * Water * Liquid tempera paint (Prang Ready-To-Use tempera paint, about $5 for six colors, dickblick.com) * Spoon

Instructions

Step 1
Cover one end of the toilet paper tube with duct tape. Loosely roll an 8- by-41/2-inch piece of aluminum foil and slip it into the tube so that it lines the inside, fitting snugly. (Or coat the inside of the ice cube tray with petroleum jelly.)

Step 2
Set tube upright (duct tape side down) on protected surface.

Step 3
In a disposable plastic container, help your child mix 1 cup plaster of Paris with 1/2 cup water. Stir slowly and thoroughly until plaster is dissolved, about 1 minute.

Step 4
Immediately add 2 tablespoons paint (or more for brighter chalk color, but be careful it can stain). Mix thoroughly.

Step 5
Spoon into the tube (or ice cube tray). Tap gently so mixture settles to the bottom.

Step 6
Let dry overnight before using.

I took part in my first swap ever with Mamarazzi! I was so bummed when I couldn't mail my package on time. But Mamarazzi and April were so understanding. I'm glad I did it. I had fun making and shopping for everything red white and blue. And I got to meet a new bloggy friend, April. April has a love of crafting and and baking. She has four fur kids and a wonderful husband. You can visit April here and here. Stop by her blogs and say hello!

Wanna see what she sent me?

Let's see. . . . Twizzlers (YUM), peppermint (YUM), Bath & Body Lip gloss, Mirror and case, Journal, Hand sanitizer (I'm always needing more of this), Bath & Body Headache ointment (with three kids, this is a must), Gum, Bath & Body - Body wash (which smells heavanly).

The Twizzlers were eaten in two days. LOL. They are my favorite candy. April, I think your a mind reader!! Thanks so much for all the Goodies. I hope you like your package too! And thank you Mamarazzi for hosting the swap. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for another one!

Dogwood Lane is now Open!!

Ever since my niece was born, I have wanted to help her mom and dad. I felt the pull to do something to alleviate the financial stress on them. That's when I began talking about possibly opening my own shop online. It's taken many months to come up with a name, products, etc. But it's finally open. Granted I only have two items in stock but that's only because I have been spending a lot of time with my teenage daughter while her brother's are visiting relatives.

The profit will be given to my brother and sister in law to help with groceries, co-pays, gas, bills, etc. I hope that you will spread the word about my little shop and consider shopping there for your gifts. It's for a great cause for a wonderful family in need!

Tuck's Take Alongs Giveaway!

When I was pregnant with my third (and last) child I had begun to feel the twinge in my backside. I had never experienced this so I thought it was just irritated and it would go away. Then the pain came. Every time I moved it was agony. Walking was horrendous!I was in so much pain it brought tears to my eyes. I secretly hoped I would go into pre-term labor so I could go to the hospital.

My wish came true the day the dreaded hemorrhoids peaked. I had been crying all day unable to move a muscle without yelping in pain. I guess all the stress of the situation had Tiger wanting to come out and play. So sure enough I got my hospital stay. As soon as I got there I begged for pain meds. It was so bad. Now I have a very high pain tolerance so for me to complain and cry it was truly excruciating. Sorry to all you new pregnant moms out there. Don't mean to scare you.

They did give me the pain meds so I could get some rest but they also gave me Tuck's pads. It really did the trick and help with the pain. Back when Tiger was born they didn't have the Take Along Towelettes. Carrying a tub of pads in your purse was most inconvenient. I love the Take Alongs! Love that They are small and discreet and don't take much room in your purse.

I have an extra box of Tuck's Take Alongs that I would love to give someone in need. Do you have a painful story to tell? Share it with the rest of us.

To enter to win tell me a fun activity for kids to do during the sumner. That's it! Giveaway will end on Friday July 10th. This is for US residents only!
