Miscreations Giveaway

I try to be creative everday. Granted some days there just isn't time and others well those are the days I haven't had my creative juice in the morning. There are times that my creativity will take a very wrong turn in craft land. Those are the ideas and projects that will never see the light of day.

EVER!

And then there are times that I had a concept but it just wasn't quiet working, so I made another one with another design idea. Or I had a slight mommy moment and attached something backwards, upside down, dripped paint on the back, got a fingerprint on it, or forgot to sew the bottom of the pocket.

Don't ask.

There is nothing wrong with the items I like to call "Miscreations". They are still usable and pretty. I just don't feel like I should charge full price for these. And I never will. Now my miscreations are your bargain!! How about that?
Every once in a while I might decided to give one of my "Miscreations" away to a reader. I'm pretty confident you will like it even if the ribbon is sewn backwards or their is a small child like fingerprint on the design, Right????

So today is one of those days. What did I do this time you ask? I played with several designs for a fabric stationary organizer. One of those designs, I had almost gotten it correct except for a minor detail. The ribbon is too short. No worries you will just have to tie it in a loose knot instead of a bow. Still works. And it's a pretty pink color.

It's big enough to hold your stationary, pen, jump drive, stamps and address labels yet small enough to fit in most handbags. It's a great way to use your time wisely. When your sitting at the mechanics waiting for your car to be serviced, waiting in the doctors office, or waiting in line to pick your child up from school you can pay your bills, send a note to your friend, or write a sweet note to your husband. Like how I threw that in there?

Please visit my store and come back here and tell me your favorite item.
Yes you will be able to get extra entries:
  • 5 extra entries if you write about this giveaway on your blog
  • 2 extra entries if you tweet or facebook this
  • 1 extra entry if you read to your kids today.

I will pick the lucky winner on October 1. This is open to all! I will be adding a Stationary organizer "Miscreation" on my Etsy shop as well. It will be greatly reduced since I goofed it up. But there again, I'm sure someone will still love it! ALL the proceeds of that sale will go to "Shop for a Cause" which will be used to help families with Special needs children like my niece.

Have fun!

Dogwood Lane Is now on Etsy!

I have arrived! I am now on Etsy! After many months of working on my shop, deciding a name, opening accounts, working on inventory, I have finally opened an Etsy Shop. As my tag line says, I offer gifts with Southern style.

Right now I have mostly Glass Tile Pendant Necklaces . They come in two sizes, 7/8" Square and 1" x 2" rectangle. The necklace choices are silver plated chain in 20", 18" or a colored ribbon corded necklace in 18". Each one will come with a 2" extender.

I can do custom orders and am happy to please! So if you are looking for something custom made just send me a message. I'd be glad to work with you. Please understand that a Custom order will take at least a week to ship. You will receive as many proofs via email that you need so that I get exactly what you want. Custom orders are also $4.00 more to cover the cost of ink and my time, but the shipping is the same.
I will be adding more products as time allows so check back often to see what's new!

On top of opening an Etsy shop, I also have many books for sale on eBay so if you are a bookworm check out what I have up for bid. As always a portion of my sales on Etsy and on eBay will go toward the "Shop for a Cause" Campaign not only to help my brother and his family but other families with special needs kids as well.

So shop away and I hope you enjoy the products that I make!

Getting Kids to Eat Right is now Easier than Ever!

A few weeks ago I received a lunch from Eating Right Kids, complete with a lunch bag for my kids to try. Right away my boys ate every bit of it. Not realizing that the ravioli was made from whole wheat pasta. They gulped it up. The servings for the lunch portion of the products were large. My boys shared and it was enough for the two of them. Of course they are younger but for big kids this would be filling!

Warner Bros. Consumer Products has partnered exclusively with Safeway to offer a “better for you” eating solution for kids: the Eating Right Kids food and beverage line, featuring the beloved Looney Tunes characters. The product line features more than 60 items across 18 categories including breakfast foods, produce, portable meals, dairy, snacks, beverages and frozen entrees. The line is available at more than 1700 Safeway locations. throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The Eating Right Kids line has been formulated to standards based on the most recent dietary recommendations and regulations from several federal and state agencies. In addition to partnering with Safeway for Eating Right Kids, Warner Bros. Consumer Products has taken the extra step of clearing retail shelves of the majority of foods featuring Looney Tunes that do not meet a “better-for-you” standard. Eating Right Kids is an offshoot of Safeway’s Eating Right Line for adults so you parents can be the example of healthy eaters in your family.

Warner Bros. Consumer Product and Safeway’s Eating Right Kids initiative was highlighted by the Federal Trade Commission for it’s ability to have a positive impact on childhood obesity. So next time you are shopping at Safeway check out the Eating Right Kids line and point your kids in the direction of healthy eating!

I’m Giving Away Four Free Songs!!!!

I got the opportunity to listen to Kenny Loggins new CD, All Join In, a few weeks ago. WOW! I would have to describe it as a Family album. It’s not so childlike that adults get tired of listening to the words. I truly enjoyed the CD and play it often in the car and while I’m working.

I have gotten an opportunity that you are going to love. Do you want some free songs to download? How about four of them? Visit here, listen to some of the songs and give your thoughts about the music. An email will be sent to you with a link to get your four free songs. It’s that simple!

I know you and your kids are going to enjoy this music!

Buttons, Apologies, and other Mysteries of Men

Let’s face it ladies, men are mysteries. They do things and we can’t for the life of us understand why. Sometimes we wonder how they ever got along without us. Well I thought I would share a few insights with you today.

  • Men live a lot of there lives based on Fact not Emotions. When we woman clam up it’s because we are upset (don’t tell me you don’t. I do it and so do you). So when men get quiet we think “OMG, I did something and he’s angry with me”  Nah!!! He just wants to solve a problem and he can’t do it when we are asking those silly questions like “Are you mad at me?”, Why are you so quiet, did I do something to hurt you?”  So my advice. . . don’t worry . . . hush and let him think. I know it’s hard for us to remember that but we can do it.

    •   Men are great at making decisions based on Fact only. Now don’t get me wrong, there are men out there that do think about feelings in making a decision but more often than not it’s “Just the Facts Ma’m”. We on the other hand hem and haw over who’s going to feel hurt, is this going to make everyone happy etc. We both do a great job at the decision making but together we do a phenomenal job. We just need to learn to compromise. Marriage is full of compromises aren’t they?

  • I’m not sure why this is but men need to have the last word. Even when saying those two words we long for them to say. “I’m Sorry”. They can do it, only they add the “but factor” . I’m sorry, but .. . . Don’t you just love it when they do that? We women just want to hear the I’m sorry part (Men are you reading this?) Don’t add anything to it. Just say those two little words. Seriously that’s all we want to hear. No need to justify why you forgot her birthday. Don’t even go there. You will just dig yourself a deeper whole.  Oh and guys . . .don’t ever tell your wife what she should be feeling. Not a good idea unless you want to sleep on the couch. Just a tip for ya.

  • I think that men tend to relay time as being in Europe. In Europe everything is done at a more relaxed pace. When it gets done it gets done. Don’t rush it. So when we ask them, nicely (notice how I put that in there guys?) to do a task they truly will get it done . . . in a week or so. Now we women on the other hand like things done when we ask. Plain and simple. We expect our kids to do the things we ask immediately and we still think our husband will do the same. Doesn’t happen like that. Granted it would be a great example for the kids but this is reality. We need to learn to ask for something to be done at least two weeks ahead of time so as to be sure it gets done before you need it done or becomes critical.

And Ladies we all know that if we step in and do it ourselves they get

mad. Why is this? Maybe a man could enlighten us a little.

  • Men are big kids with big toys Not as true as you think. Yes they do grow up eventually, I promise. But every once in a while they like to regress. It relieves stress I guess. You will often find your husband fiddling with your son’s action figures, building with Legos or experimenting with Mento’s and Coke. It’s just a Man thing. They also love to push buttons. I’m not talking metaphorically. I’m talking real buttons. Have you ever gone into Wal-Mart and experienced a shopping trip without him pushing a button of some kind?  One instance I very vividly remember was when my husband found an open package of an air gun. Yes he just had to push the button and it went off right in my ear. In the middle of Wal-Mart.  There really isn’t an explanation for this. Just walk away my friends . Walk away.

  • Last but not least, there are men that become big babies when they are sick. Not all do this but some are susceptible to the fever regressive behavior. I don’t know if it’s genetic or not but it happens quite frequently. Although, I have to say it does not happen in my house. My husband takes being sick very seriously. He does not see the light of day for at least two days and then he’s fine. I find it much easier to wait on him hand and foot when he’s sick like that than if he’s whiney. Which I have never known him to be. Ladies, I know it’s hard but we just have to accept it. It can be trying at times but we are stronger for it. Right?

Despite all of our differences we do well together. We just have to learn to adapt and to compromise. That’s what marriage is about. Life is good having men around. They make us laugh, take out the trash, look good while doing it.

Note: This is not meant to bash my husband. We talk all the time about our differences and we have learned to laugh at each other’s idiosyncrasies. And I’m not saying all men do this. Some do some don’t we ladies just have to learn to adapt as do they.
