After taking the kids to the Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville, NC on Labor Day weekend, Mr. Right wanted to get a turtle or a lizard. Something small and slimy that would live in a fish tank and require not much maintenance. So after a hearty breakfast of Belgian waffles and the ruse of we need to pick up some food for our two dogs and four cats we piled the kids in the car and headed to our local pet store.
Mr. Right led the procession of shoppers in training to the reptilian section and proceeded to show the kids how fun these pets would be. They saw geckos, chameleons, snakes, hermit crabs and Iguana's. Apparently, it is illegal to sell turtles in NC. Who Knew! So that was out for us. But the boys grew bored and wanted to see more animals.
So our small procession of shopping carts traveled to the small rodents area where they were easily enamored with the mice, hamsters, gerbils and Guinea pigs. So much so that the squeals of happiness could be heard in the stock room.
But what really caught their eyes were these
The excitement was felt to the bone from each family member. Including yours truly. They were the cutest things and they were just begging to come home with us. And so they did.
Meet Jack and Jill
They both are only 4 months old and are very curious about everything. At first they were biting us all the time but we nipped that issue in the bud pronto. Jill is the smaller one and is turning a more chocolate brown with a white face. Jack is quite a bit larger and is mostly white but I'm sure as he gets older his fur will get darker too.
They are so fun to play with and are hilarious to watch. But they love Dr. Pepper and will knock over a glass just to get to it. So we have to make sure all our drinks are out of the room before they are let out.
Yes they stink but we have been giving them an additive in there water that takes away the smell of their litter mess. And they get a bath and get spritzed down with smelly good for their fur stuff. So all in all the smell is at a minimum. Which is a good thing for me. But I think they are too cute. And the kids are so glad we brought them home with us.
Jack looking a tad startled from the flash.
Jill climbing out of the cushions on the couch.
Note: Some of you are wondering what made that mess in the previous post. It was not these guys. It was my 3yr old . I woke up and found him throwing the fluff in the air and exclaiming "Look, Mommy, SNOW!!"

they are cute! and fun names! You will be teaching the kids a lot of other things soon if that's their true sex...
Cute...and fun little guys. Congrats on the new pets!
Oh too cute. We have two little girls right now (the most we've had was 5 at one time). They are a lot of work, but so much fun. And you're right, if you keep them cleaned, the smell is minimum. We had our in the office off the living room and most people didn't even know they were there. Enjoy you're new additions, they will bring you years of laughter :-)
I never would've guessed they can't sell turtles in NC!
Jack and Jill are SO cute! Too funny about the Dr. Pepper. I once knew someone that had a ferret, and he said it would get into cans of Pringles if there were any around.
OOh, furry animals are just the cutest things. ^^
i am glad you like them... i am NOT a pet person... maybe a puppy one day.. but no time soon...
the turtle is cute though... not for a pet, but cute!
