Craft Project Thursday

So I thought I'd do Craft Project a little differently today. Instead of me showing you a fun project to do , I want to see what you are working on. It can be a tutorial of a crafty nature, something your children made, A crafty medium you have never tried before, something your pet created (we all know how creative they can be) etc. Just sign Mr. Linky so we can all check out each others creativity!

This is what I'm working on this week.

These are 30 Hoppy Birthday Party invitations. Everything was designed using Sure Cuts Alot and cut by the Cricut Expression. The card stock is from Stamp'n Up . And yes I am aware of the fact there are two different types of greens. I tried to fit two frog cards on one sheet but it wouldn't fit.

Happy Crafting!!!!!!

Fun in the Leaves

3 day Challenge by Neosporin

A few days ago I took the Neosporin 3 day challenge. Before I was asked to do this I didn't know that Neosporin had any type of lip therapy. When I think of Neosporin I think cuts and scrapes not hydrating lips. But I was curious so find out how well this stuff would work. So I jumped at the chance.

When I applied it the first time, it did feel a tad greasy and you really didn't need a whole lot of the stuff to get great coverage. But I noticed that I only needed to apply once or twice during the day. Even after had something to drink or eat my lips still felt as if they were getting the hydration they needed. Many time with other brands I find myself applying it at least ten times a day. I can imagine that this stuff will last me a lot longer than most brands do.

The day treatment comes in a .35 oz tube and the night treatment is in a small container. The night treatment feels just like the day. It's a bit greasy but thicker than most lip therapies. By morning my lips were not dry at all and in fact I could still feel the stuff on my lips and it felt awesome not to wake up with dry cracked lips.

My skin is dry everywhere and in the winter time it gets even worse. There are at least three or four times a year when my lips get so bad they bleed. I keep them bathed in lip moisture for that reason. But having to buy them so often because I have to reapply all the time can get pricey.

By third day , my lips look healthier and feel hydrated. Seriously! Oh and let's not forget that the day treatment has an SPF of 20! That's a lot of protection.

I have already gotten some for my teenage daughter who has the same dry skin and the same lip issues as I do. She loves it too and won't go anywhere without it. Visit their site for more info about the drug facts and where you can purchase Neosporin Lip Health. Fill out their short survey about your lips and recieve a coupon towards your own product.

"I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Neosporin and received a sample of the Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy and the Lip Health Daily Hydration Therapy to facilitate my review and a $20 thank-you gift certificate."

Card Making with my Cricut

Most of you know that I got a Cricut Expression for Christmas! If you didn't know that . . . I got a Cricut Expressions for Christmas. Now you are informed. I have loved checking out all the great projects you can do with this awesome machine. Granted the cartridges are expensive. The Cricut site sells them around 69.99 but the craft stores around here have hiked up the price to 103.00! Yeah. Not getting them from there.

Bought my first cartridge(Wild Card Cartridge) the other day through Amazon. I received the package the other day and started working on cards the same day. LOVE IT!!!! These cards aren't by any means fancy . I mean some of you ladies out there are uber talented in this department but I'm just learning. So here is my first card made from the Wild Card Cartridge using my Cricut!

I have no idea who the paper is by. My stash is so disorganized it's embarrassing. Seriously need some organization help in that area. I added a white cardstock inside card so that the writing would show up. I can't wait to do some more like this. I did a masculine birthday card but I don't have pictures of it yet. When I do that (probably tomorrow) I will post it too.

My husband is having as much fun as I am creating with the Cricut. There are so many projects we want to try. In Fact, we are doing our son's birthday party invitations. They are too cute!

I think what got me into the card making bug was going to a Stamp'n Up workshop a few weeks ago. I got to visit the demonstrator tonight at her home and it was so fun just to get her ideas and see all the new products coming out. More money to spend. I guess I should sell something so I can spend my money . And boy can I spend money! LOL

And the Winner is . . .

I know, I know I haven't announced the winner of the Softlips giveaway. I have been dealing with sick kids, a jewelry party and my shop the past few weeks. So without further ado . . . (insert drumroll here).

Katie Carrico from Colorado!!!

Katie you should be recieving your package very soon in the mail!

Keep coming back! I have more giveaways in store!

Craft Project Thursday

Rolling Art Heart

Younger children will have a ball making these little hearts and they will be very proud to give them to Mommy on Valentine's Day. It's also a good lesson in cause and effect and "what would happen if..."

What You'll Need:

  • Red and white tempura paint
  • Glitter
  • Large white paper heart doily
  • Red construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Golf ball
  • Shallow pan (We used a disposable aluminum baking pan)

What to Do:

1. Put the doily in the bottom of the shallow pan.

2. Put a couple of drops of red and white paint in the middle of the doily. Put the golf ball in the pan and roll it around.

When it goes through the paint, it picks up some of the paint and drags it around the doily. The colors mix and make different shades of pink. Keep doing this until the child is satisfied with what it looks like. Lightly sprinkle it with glitter.

Carefully take it out of the pan to let it dry. If you leave it in the pan it will stick and might tear the doily when you try to remove it. Below is a closeup from the heart above to give you an idea of how it will look. Sorry the picture isn't better!

3. Once the doily is dry, glue it onto a piece of red construction paper. Cut around the heart to make a red border around the doily. (I used a pair of decorative scissors for the picture above, but this isn't necessary.

Kids absolutely love rolling around that silly golf ball! If you want to make this craft more elaborate, you can add other decorations, write a something over the top of the doily, or whatever else you can think of.

I like to leave this plain so that you can see the texture of the paint. Besides, most kids don't want to cover up their art with other stuff when they see how neat it looks!

One other variation... you can forget about using the doily at all and just use a piece of construction paper. That will really show off the texture that the golf ball leaves behind.

Wordless Wednesday

The day after Christmas we took a trip to Boone North Carolina with my dad. Our room was not ready yet but they let us go up since the house keeper was almost done. Now my oldest son is obsessed with vacuums. It comes with having Autism. He insisted that he vacuum the room and give the housekeeper a much needed break!

Thanks Lisa for allowing my son to get his vacuum fix on our trip! You made his day!

Fiber Gummies Giveaway

As a child I always associated fiber with "old people". Then I figured that they needed it because they were old. But that's not the case. I can't believe how wrong I was. Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatrics significantly increased the recommended daily fiber intake standards, from the previous "age plus five" rule? In fact, today's updated guidelines recommended 25 grams of fiber per day for four year old children. So how do we get that fiber into our kids when they detest veggies and all things remotely healthy ?

Try this. Pedia-Lax makes a great tasting Fiber Gummie in the shape of penguins that are sugar-free, calorie - free, gluten-free and made with natural fruity flavors. With a recommended serving of three gummies every day, (equal to 1/2 cup of broccoli!) Fiber Gummies are agreat way to supplement the fiber found in fruits, vegetables and other fiber-rich foods in your child's daily diet. It's a great solution to help bridge the gap between the recommended amount of fiber and the fiber that kids actually consume in their daily diet. Oh and guess what parents? Fiber Gummies are dentist approved!!!!

I'm all over this since my boys are very picky when it comes to food. It's hard enough getting them to eat mac and cheese. Yeah I know strange but my kids have sensory issues so they tend to avoid certain foods like the plague. Getting the right amount of nutrition in them is a must for me. They both love the taste and know when it's time to have another gummie.

Fiber Gummies are available at Target and Walgreens, also online and other supermarkets and retailers nationwide. Please visit the website to use the "store locator" to see where the product is sold in your area. The site also has great tips on how to incorporate a high-fiber diet into a busy family's lifestyle with tips for meal planning and easy to make recipes. And check out the $1.00 off coupon available on the site.

Would you like to win a bottle of Fiber Gummies? All you have to do is leave a comment at the end of this post and tell me a tip that you use to incorporate healthy food without your kids knowing about it. To get an extra entry become a fan of Fiber Gummies on Facebook and leave me a separate comment that you did.

This giveaway is open to US residents only and will end on January 19th!

Generic vs. National Brand

We mom's want what's best for our little ones. Whether it be bottle feeding or breast feeding. Granted breast feeding provides all the antibodies that your baby needs but it is not always possible to feed your little one that way. For those of you who choose to bottle feed it can get very very expensive. I know, I have been there. And the generic brands of formula are the cheapest way to go.

I for one could not breast feed my middle child as he was on a feeding tube and had a cleft palate. With all the medical bills we had to pay for , formula was eating away at our budget. So we chose to buy Parent's Choice brand from Walmart which helped out budget immensely.

But Enfamil , in an ad campaign told everyone that you can not get the same nutritional value from generic brands therefore causing us mom's to spend more money on formula when we didn't need to. Mead Johnson was found to have falsely claimed that PBM’s store brand products — for Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Kroger and Walgreens — were not as good as Enfamil, and that Enfamil helped brain and eye development in babies.

“It’s a gross, false, misleading ad . . . We have the same exact source of the lipids, with the same exact levels from the same exact supplier,” said Joe Shields, director of public relations for PBM Products. “Really, what it means is that store brand formulas are nutritionally equivalent to national brand formulas like Enfamil.”

Enfamil took a huge risk because sales were low. They weren't thinking of the consumer at all just the money they could put in the bank. So there you have it. You won't be cheating your baby out of valuable nutrients if that's what you choose to do.

I am in no way saying that either breast feeding or formula is better. It's your choice. But you need to know that going for the cheaper generic brand is the same as buying the national brands such as Enfamil.

Craft Project Thursday

Cockscomb Valentine Wreath

Nothing expresses the essence of Valentine's Day better than a big, full heart. Declare your love for a sweetheart -- or simply a love of romance -- with this handmade cockscomb wreath. This one I found on Martha Stewart's site.

Tools and Materials
Heart-shaped 10-inch polystyrene wreath form (available at florists' shops)
Utility knife with a saw blade
Hot-glue gun and glue sticks
Several bunches of dried cockscomb (each with about eight stems)
3 yards of satin ribbon
T-pins
Floral wire

Cockscomb Valentine Wreath How-To

Round off the edges of the wreath form with the utility knife; beveled edges will let flowers flow over the sides. Trim stems off flowers, leaving a 1/4-inch base. Apply glue to bases, and arrange flowers -- tops facing up -- on form, grouping them by color. Cut a yard of ribbon, fold it in half, and attach it to the back of the wreath with a T-pin to form a loop for hanging. After hanging the wreath from a tack in the wall, tie remaining ribbon into a bow with long tails, and mount the bow on the tack with floral wire.

Hello !!!!!

Yeah I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted a real post not just a review post. It’s been crazy around here with family visiting, going out of town, having three kids at home driving me nuts, etc.

Our Christmas was awesome. The kids got what they wanted thanks to grandparents and mom and daddy listening. Amazing how that happens. I’d show you Christmas pictures but my card reader refuses to cooperate. So those will have to wait till I buy a new reader.

Apparently, I was a really good girl this year because hubby and the kids got me some awesome gifts (and so did my parents)! So a week before Christmas my hubby hands me a piece of paper with a receipt printed on it. He said he knew I would see on our account what it was so he had to give it to me early. Want to know what it was?

SUUWEEET!!!! I love it! It didn’t get here till a few days ago but the hubs and I played with it for a few hours just randomly cutting out things. I already have ideas for birthday invitations and treat bags for a party coming up. Can’t wait! I will be showing off my creations soon!!

On Christmas Day we spent the day at my parent’s farm. We gave the kids all the presents and enjoyed watching them get excited about each one. I figured that since the Cricut Expressions was a ton of moolah that that would be it for me.

Nope. My kids presented me with this beautiful amethyst ring! Is that not pretty? I had seen it at a Silpada party and loved it. My friend and my husband were pretty sneaky in picking it out and getting it to the house without me knowing.

My parents gave me the EA Sport for the Wii! I’m so excited about it! I’m more determined than ever to lose this weight. And this will help me in the winter months when It’s too freak’n cold (like the last few days) to get moving outside. I’ll let you know what I think in a few days. My charging stand for the controls died the other day. What is it with everything going Kaput???? I need to get some batteries and/or a new charging station. But like I said It’s too freak’ cold to go anywhere!

Yesterday, my wireless mouse gave out on me (same time as my card reader) the hubs decided that he would give me his wireless one and he would buy himself the Apple Magic Mouse. I’m thinking ok you deserve it. Get it . But what I was thinking. Get it soon so I can get back to using my computer. I’m lost without it!!!

So he comes home with not one but two of them! One for me and one for him. I love it! I thought it would be something I would have to get used to since is it lower than most mice out there. But it’s comfortable and so easy to set up.

Ok so enough about me. What fun things did you get surprised with?
