Alternative ABC's

I received this book, Alternative ABC's  which is published by Ammo Books. This board book features original, colorful, and graphic illustrations and typography by Southern California based designers Eric Ruffing and Dave Parmley of 13THFLOOR. It's not your normal ABC book with all the animals, food, and cute pictures.

In this humorous and hipster take on a traditional ABC board book for kids, the alphabet here reads: F is for Flames, M is for Mohawk, P is for Peace, and S is for Skull. This is the board book that Soccer Moms run from and Rocker Moms gravitate to. Obviously it doesn't appeal to everyone. But it sure makes a fun and different way to introduce your child to the fundamentals.

Aesthetically borrowing from street, surf, skate, and music subcultures, the custom design and typography beautifully spell out this unique alphabet. From Calligraffiti to Pin-Striping, and from Goth to Punk, this little book crosses genres and is sure to create a buzz.

My boys thought it was cool and even my 14 yr old daughter enjoyed the book. The graphics are totally awesome. I'm no rocker mom but I did enjoy this new take on an old favorite.

I'm Still Here!!

No, I'm not dead, maimed, or sick. Nor have I moved to Timbuktu. I'm still here. Our beginning of summer was a whirlwind of activity. There's been a lot of packing, laundry, unpacking, and more packing.

Luggage

not

Moving Boxes

Little Monkey graduated from pre-school! 2 1/2 years ago he started school in the public school system. That means he was three when he started going to school with the big kids. His first day was trauma. For me and for him. He didn't want to go and I didn't want my little boy to grow up. I liked having him with me at home. But I knew in my heart that it was what he needed to get a head start.

Little Monkey loved school and though still very resistant to change learned about adapting.  I cried at his ceremony. The assistant teacher read a special poem that had everyone in tears. We can't thank her enough for all the hard work she has done. There were some ups and downs this year but she made the year fun and exciting for each student.

Baby Girl left for Camp Willow Run two days after school ended for the summer. If you live in NC and have school age kids I highly recommend you look into sending your kids here for a week. I went there as a child so when we pulled in the driveway my mind was flooded with memories.

All of them good.

It was an awesome experience for her and her best friend. As soon as they came home they were making plans to go again next year.

We had enough time to do laundry and shop for a few more essentials and then it was time (1am) to send my young lady and her best friend to BigStuf Camp in Panama City, Florida with the youth group. Again, I highly recommend you check into a church that sends their youth to these camps. Baby Girl enjoyed it immensely and really learned a lot.

During all this packing and unpacking for her , our boys packed up and were off to visit my in laws for 10 days. The second my mother in law was at the door to come pick them up, Little Monkey had his suitcase in hand and was out the door. They boys love to visit them and really enjoy the time . Their days were filled with parks, swimming, playing outside, shopping at Wal Mart, and even singing.

Little monkey made another singing debut at the local nursing home. I wish I could have been there to see him sing with his Maw-Maw.

While all this was happening my father in law underwent surgery on his carotid artery. My husband and I drove to Charlotte to be with his mom while he was in the operating room. Things went well and he was home in 24 hrs! He's still sore and healing but doing well.

During all this whirlwind of activity our modem died on us. So we were without phones and internet for several days. *Gasp* It was tough but we survived. Since the kids have been gone I have been organizing like crazy. The playroom which we could not even get into was weeded through and organized. My sewing room got the same treatment. It still needs a few storage items on the walls. But It's doable for now.

Thinks are starting to settle down here even though Baby Girl still is away. This time with her father. But my boys are here and we are enjoying the sun. I'm glad they are back but it sure was nice to have a little rest from them.

I hope you guys didn't leave me after such a long absence. I'm not gone. I have a lot of giveaways in store and a few sewing tutorials up my sleeve. So please come back.

Pretty Please!!!!

Backyard Safari Outfitters

Summer is about fun in the sun, exploring, and being outdoors. And Backyard Safari Outfitters has all the equipment your child needs for scoping out local "wildlife," from insects in the grass to birds in the sky to frogs in a pond and more! The collection include over 30 different essentials! The different component of the Backyard Safari Outfitters collection make it a great nature play experience for kids to enjoy on their own or to share with friends and family.

We received the Cargo Vest, Bug Vacuum and the Mega View Periscope. By far my boy's favorite is the bug vacuum. It has several bug container attachments and each has a magnifying glass for optimum study.  I was impressed with the easy catch and release mechanism on the side so kids can observe and the insects and let them go.  We have enjoyed several evenings of catching lightening bugs so far. I love seeing the excitement in their faces when they have caught one.

The Mega View Periscope was also a big hit as well. They enjoyed checking out the birds at the bird feeders without disturbing them and peaking over the couch with it was major fun too! It has a locking clip on the side so it can stay in position until observing is a must.

To heighten the outdoor adventure and peak kids' interest in science, each Backyard Safari Outfitters kit includes a detailed Pop-Up Field Guide small enough to fit neatly into any pocket. This handy guide is full of rich illustration and information for ever subject related to outdoor and nature exploration such as Field communication Solar System, Butterflies, Fossils, and Beetles.

I love toys that encourage children to get active, play outdoors and explore. It keeps us moms sane and our kids learn about the world around them, which to me is the best kind of learning.

Dinner Anyone??

Apparently someone didn't want to eat his dinner the other night

I found this the next morning.
